Our Roots Run Deep

I spent last Saturday evening with our team at Darby Glenn in Hilliard, Ohio. I got to the facility at dinner time and helped serve dinner and feed the residents. It was a perfect time because I could spend some time with the first shift employees and help the night shift nursing assistants get the residents ready for bed. I could not have been prouder of our team at Darby Glenn. They worked incredibly well together as a team and assisted each other beautifully. Their interaction with the residents was so loving and kind. My heart was full of pride as I worked with the team to meet the needs of our residents.

While I was there I saw Ibby Sankoh. Ibby is a Registered Nurse at Darby, but when I first met him in 2002 he was an STNA for me at Crown Pointe Care Center where I was the Administrator. Ibby has worked his way up from dietary to STNA to LPN to RN. He’s an amazing leader and represents everything good about our profession and our company. His passion for caring for our residents has only grown stronger through the years.

I was talking to Brian Colleran, my mentor through the years, and was telling him about my experience at Darby Glenn this weekend and the great staff I worked with and he said, “The roots of a tree are responsible for if a tree lives or dies, but they never get the credit.” WOW! He’s exactly right! We have a lot of amazing employees in our facilities that deliver superior care each day and night, and are never recognized. They quietly go about giving their very best to our residents on behalf of our company. They are the roots that support us and allow us to live, grow and thrive as a company.

If you recall, Darby Glenn is where my STNA journey started over a year ago! Since then, I've been working each week at one of our facilities and learning more about living out our company motto -- Supporting Superior Care. Saturday night, the journey came full circle, but it is far from over. I can never go back to the old way of leading from the sideline. I will always be on the frontline with our team caring for our residents and learning from the very people that make us who we are. To all those roots out there that nourish and support Atlas Healthcare Solutions, I want to say thank you! We would shrivel up and die without you. Our roots run deep!
