ONE

Lamar Miller works as a Floor Tech and Housekeeper at Arlington Care Center in Newark, Ohio. But that doesn’t even begin to tell all Lamar brings to that facility.

I was working as a Nursing Assistant on Lamar’s unit the other day and was incredibly impressed with how clean it was and how good the unit smelled. Every time I went by a resident’s room and Lamar was in the room, he was talking away with the resident while cleaning the room. The laughter and conversations throughout the day really warmed my heart. I asked Lamar later that day if he would mind sitting down with me for a couple of minutes and answering a few questions. Lamar said, “Sure, not a problem.” Here is that conversation:

“One tree can give life to a forest,

One smile can start a friendship,

One hand can uplift a soul,

One idea can shape the future,

One candle can wipe out darkness,

One laugh can conquer gloom,

One ray of hope can lift your spirits,

One touch can show that you care,

One life can make a difference,

Be that ‘one’ today.”
