Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

October 20, 2019

This past Saturday, October 19th, over 60 employees gathered together in Dayton to participate in the Dayton at Fifth Third Field to participate in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk. Foundations Health team members from Pinnacle Pointe, Maria Joseph, and as far away as Jefferson Healthcare Center joined for this great cause.

Kelly Johnson, Regional Director of Operations for Foundations Health Solutions, brought Team Jefferson almost four hours to support the cause. Stacie Douglas, Director of Marketing and Admissions at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton, organized Team Maria Joseph.

Tawanna James has been a team leader for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer going back to 2011 when she lost a very dear friend, Cherie, to breast cancer. Since then, Tawanna has organized a team to raise money to fight this awful disease. This year, two teams from sister facilities joined Tawanna and the team from Pinnacle Pointe. Together our teams raised almost $4,000 for the American Cancer Society.

We lost an STNA this year to breast cancer, and we have several other care team members battling this disease. I could not be prouder of our care team members across the state and our entire Foundations Health Solutions family. They step up whenever a care team member is hurting or in need. They do fundraisers, donate vacation time, and come to the assistance of each other whenever there is a need. This is our Culture of Care, and it's lived out each and every day throughout our facilities across the state.

Finding breast cancer early and getting state-of-the-art cancer treatment are the most important strategies to prevent deaths from breast cancer. Breast cancer that's found early, when it's small and has not spread, is easier to treat successfully. Getting regular screening tests is the most reliable way to find breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society has screening guidelines for women at average risk of breast cancer, and for those at high risk for breast cancer.
